We couldn't think of a better person to launch this series with than media maven, stylista and our most recent work out inspiration, Kéla Walker.
You can watch all the You Tube videos and buy all the makeup in the world but if your skincare routine ain't right, it's all in vain. That’s the real foundation to your beauty routine.
You always have a fresh face and a notable lip. What products do you keep on hand?
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye
Kiehls Nightly Recovery Micro Peel
Mario Badescu Rose Water
Stila Liquid Eyeliner
Stila Longwear Lip color in Fiery
(We think she'd love Trust Fund Matte Lip Pen by Gold Label Cosmetics.)
We know that you have a few beauty secrets up your sleeve. Could you share one or two with us?
Not so much secrets as they are practices:
1. I wash my face with cold water and pat it dry with a cold cloth.
2. I stand for chemicals peels- they are great for my ongoing battle with hyper pigmentation. I think women of color tend to be intimidated by them but after a little research you’ll find that they’re one of the best things for great skin care.
If you could raid anyone's beauty cabinet whose would it be?
It's a toss up between beauty editor Felicia Walker Benson and model Iman. Felicia, because her skin is like porcelain- it's flawless. I believe she and her cabinet have all the answers. Iman, because HELLO. Iman. That woman hasn't aged since the day she stepped on the scene. She's ageless. Surely the fountain of youth is in her beauty cabinet.
What's the first thing you do in the morning?
Besides go to the bathroom, turn on the weather and shower... beauty wise: after brushing my teeth I wash my face. Immediately after I start my skincare routine and makeup. I do not move out of place until I'm finish with everything. I like to do all the steps back to back in order to take advance of the fresh skin. I believe that's what contributes to my signature dewy look.
If you could swap beauty tips with anyone who would it be?
Nia Long- she’s another ageless beauty. I’m sure she has a trick or two up her sleeve.
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Snapchat?
Snapchat because it's raw and unfiltered (when done right).
What blog(s), website(s), or IG pages do you stalk for beauty tips?
Gorgeous In Grey
This That Beauty
Style and Beauty Doctor
Red or nude lip?
Depends on the occasion and the look but trust that both are always on standby in my purse. If I HAD to choose, red - it never fails to boost any look.
What does #livevivrantly mean to you?
To me it means living your best life. Living life to the fullest and with intention; creating memories that create a lifetime of stories.
What do you do for self-care
I find time to take time for myself in the simplest things whether it's shopping, reserving my couch for a full day of lounging or going to the spa. Most people have gym memberships, I have a spa membership guaranteeing me at least one service every month. BEST INVESTMENT EVER. Well, that and my couch.
(We'll have to talk to her on another day about her inspiring workout regimen. Girlfriend is the definition of snatched.)
Your sleek lob always looks flawless, even after those Soul Cycle sessions that you rave about. You have to tell us how.
Full disclosure: I have a little help with my hair from Indique Hair. I wear their pure wavy hair, which allows me the flexibility to go from straight to wavy in no time- all while protecting and preserving my own hair. My BabyBliss flatiron is my favorite tool to help me do so. It obviously straightens but it also helps me create a wavy curl too. It’s all in the flick of the wrist!!! To maintain my hair when I’m wearing it straight I wrap it and cover it with a stocking cap (I'm from the south! ). When it’s curly I do bantu knots or bun-it at night and cover it with a bonnet. In the AM, I unravel and shake for the perfect bed head hair or organized chaos, as I like to call it. It’s all very single girl status.
